Country Houses
Vila Afonso is located in the southern slope of Madeira Island, at Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, in an agricultural area widely known for the production of the renowned Madeira Wine.
On the actual estate, you can enjoy the production of the vineyards and banana trees in-loco.
Today, the predominant culture is the Negra-Mol vine variety, which produces the fortified wine of Madeira.
In the wine cellar, today you can still find some private reserves from mid 20th century.
With a panoramic view over the piscatorial and agricultural village of Câmara de Lobos, this area is very interesting due to the rare beauty that the banana plantations and vineyards provide to the local landscape. This is by excellence the perfect location to enjoy the scenery, as well as the Madeiran ways and customs.
The house, which we believe was built in the 17th century, was totally refurbished in 1999. Extreme care was taken, however, not to change the simple and traditional style of its typical Madeiran architecture. Its natural raw materials were kept and enhanced, in such a way that the ashlar masonry from an extinct stone quarry was left exposed.
