How to reach Madeira and Porto Santo Islands
The quickest and most convenient way to reach Madeira is by plane. The islands of Madeira and Porto Santo are easily accessible from almost any major European airport with several flights a week, including low cost and charter flights. Funchal harbour, the biggest on the archipelago, is well known to the Cruise Ship courses in this area of the Atlantic. Arriving in Madeira by cruise ship is a wonderful experience. The view of the island as you approach the harbor is awesome.
Porto Santo Island sits only 40 km to the northeast of Madeira. Flying from Madeira to Porto Santo takes only about 20 min. SATA Airlines operates two daily flights. However the most popular way to reach Porto Santo is by ferry which has the advantage of being able to take cars across. The ferry Lobo Marinho leaves Funchal harbour everyday at 8h00, returning around 18h. Depending on the season additional connections are made.
