Monte Municipal Garden

Also known as Leite Monteiro, this municipal garden is set 550m above sea level and covers an area of 26,000 m2. Stocked with both indigenous and exotic species including century old trees, the gardens have a relaxing and fresh atmosphere. This is in part created by the stream that flows through the gardens and forms a waterfall at the southern end.

Nearby the park entrance, shady plane trees surround the Largo da Fonte square, with its bandstand and fountain, Fonte da Virgem. The marble Fonte da Virgem contains an image of Our Lady of Monte. The park also has a lake with an island at its centre in the shape of Madeira Island.
