Santa Luzia

Santa Luzia

Halfway up on the hillside

The civil parish of Santa Luzia is located in an area of 134 hectares (331 acres). It has about 7 thousand inhabitants and is characterised for being a residential area with schools and, of course, a church – the Church of Santa Luzia.

The civil parish is not very big, and starts close to Funchal city centre and carries on until halfway up on the hillside of the island.

Amongst the many houses it features, it has countless farms, which their owners have managed to preserve for a long time now. With their work, they have kept a little of the soul of the people that made the island grow, and bring it to our day and age.
