Municipal Garden

The Municipal Garden, also known as Dona Amélia Garden, is located north of Avenida Arriaga. The Municipal Garden covers an area of 8,300 m2. The Convent of São Francisco once occupied this site, and the Pedra de Armas, part of the convent ruins, stands beside the lawns.

This garden has some beautiful examples of Madeira’s indigenous flora as well as imported species from around the world. The most interesting species have an identification plate with their name and origin.

Well situated in the heart of the town, this park has a bar and pavement café, a lake and a stream with birds and fishes. Worth mentioning is the art exhibition, with the display of some works of art. Since 1992, the park has an auditorium where all sorts of cultural events have been staged.
