Casa da Piedade is a traditional Madeiran house within the rural tourism concept. It is located on the lush green valley of São Vicente, in the fascinating setting of the Laurissilva Forest- World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

This house takes its name (Piedade's House) from the lady that last inhabited here. It was built in the 18th century and renovated in 1994 according to the original style. There are full modern conveniences for guests.

It offers 7 brightly decorated rooms, all with en-suit bathroom, wood furniture, TV and telephone.

The house kitchen and outdoor barbecue are always available so that guests can cook their own meals.

Wi-Fi and parking are free.

During warmer months guests can relax in the garden and enjoy the wonderful mountain views. In winter time guests can enjoy a rest by the fireplace in the lounge area.

São Vicente Village is approximately 20 minutes’ walk from Casa Da Piedade, the Atlantic Ocean is 1.5 km away. Nearby there are some beautiful Levada Walks, ready for you to discover breathtaking views.

How to get there

To get to São Vicente from Funchal, you have to take the freeway towards Ribeira Brava. After exiting in Ribeira Brava, you have to climb up and continue the route, following the signs. You will pass by Serra de Água, and then there is a tunnel which leads to São Vicente. Exiting in São Vicente, go all the way down to the city centre. Then, you will pass in a roundabout and exit in the first road on your right. Further on, there is another roundabout which you will pass and exit in the first road on your right (sign Grutas de São Vicente). Go straight ahead (do not drive up on the right) and about 50 meters wou will be in Casa da Piedade (on your right side).
