Estadia 5*

A D. Joana foi uma simpatia e deixou-nos completamente à vontade. A casa, bastante acolhedora e com tudo o que poderíamos necessitar. Aconselho vivamente pois a relação preço/qualidade vale mesmo a pena :)

Not as we expected

4/ 10

The place is pretty as a whole but it certainly needs a greater care from the host, which was transparently missing. First of all: at the very beginning there was a problem with communication – the charmful old woman speaks only Portuguese and French a bit, no English at all. If I didn’t speak French a bit too, the communication with her would have been out of the question, maybe apart from the sign language. Secondly: the whole house needs cleaning except for a really shining floor (dead bugs in the lampshade in the bathroom, the furnitures covered with a longstanding dust), there were lots of litter behind the house and the swimming pool – this is only a small fountain, in addition out of order, very dirty and neglected. The photos which are seen on the site just emphasize the advantages, completely hiding disadvantages. The whole island is very pricey in overall (we really don’t know why); we paid much less for the much bigger and better equipped house on Madeira. Here, on Porto Santo the rooms (1 room as to be precise) were dark, frousy, there was lack of dishwasher, lack of wi-fi and telephone, iron and hairdryer. I am listing now the things available at the bigger and cheaper house on Madeira. The equipment at Casa Rosaria was worn out and the food products, which you could find at the cupboard were past the expiration date. It is worth mentioning that the bathroom was small and not comfortable nor spacious at all. The whole price for the stay was incommensurate as to the quality of the service we met there.

Very warm welcome, magnificent garden. Poor quality furniture, smelly cupboard, not enough cooking kitchenware, poor light. Very quiet place, good location if you have a car, free use of two washing machines. Low price. Despite some drawbacks, we spent a very good time in Casa Rosario.

A beautiful spot, with good restaurant nearby and lovely rocky coastline.

good & bad

7/ 10

Good : We were greeted by a lovely old lady, the garden is beautiful, the cobblestone yard is a masterpiece, and the house is good enough ; perfect silence, near a nice deserted beach. Bad: the bed is so small, hard and CREAKY that I had to go & sleep on the divan in the kitchen ! but there the fridge was a bit noisy... The cooker works strangely : if you use more than 2 plates simultaneously, the fuses blow up, and the old lady had not shown us were the fuses were (luckily, her gardener was on the spot when it happened)... Finally, the shower works OK, but is in a sad state, and difficult to hang. All in all, we'll keep a good memory of the place... but we're not choosy !

Casa Rosario is a very good place to relax. There are only a few houses nearby and a small beach (wild sea)1 km away. There is also one restaurant, whitch serves very nice Espetada. The kitchen is well equipped so that its also possible to cook. To buy things is a little bit difficult if you dont have a car (Taxi ca. 11 €, by foot 1:15 hour). The houses are equipped with old and original things and everything is very, very clean. There is also a washing mashine which you can use at no costs. The lady, who showed as around was very welcoming and friendly. We felt at home from the very first moment :-)). I would recommend this house, especially for people who really want to relax and to come down.

place to relax

10/ 10

Casa Rosario Coelho is a very goog place to relax and come down.I can recommend everyone who needs stillness. There is not a lot to do. You can walk to a small beach within 15 min.. Nearby the beach there is a restaurant witch serve a really good espetada. The kitchen in our appartment was well equipped so that you can cook on your own. We didn't have a car so that it was not so easy to buy things. You can go by taxi to Vila Baleira (ca. 11 €) or walk (1:15 hour, up and down). Its very nice to sit on the terrace and listen to the sound of nature. There is also a whashing mashine you can use at no costs. The equippment of the houses is old and original, but everthing is very, very clean :-)). The lady, who showed us around (I thing the name was Joanna) was very warm and welcoming and so nice!!! We will come again for shure!!!

Great place

A very nice place to stay in Porto Santo. Calm, nice, with a Johanne that explains you a lot of things concerning the island and the history of this place. Ideal for families with young children like us. We were happy over there.

Beautiful remote farmstead with a history

8/ 10

Casa Rosário Coelho is a beautiful old farmstead on the island of Porto Santo, located in the tiny village of Serra Fora a few kilometres east of Vila Baleira. Though not far by car, it's quite a distance to walk (we made the mistake of walking there from the ferry port). There are a few small beaches not far from the house, but they are not as nice as the island's main beach - this is important to know if you don't have a car. We stayed in a very spacious, comfortable stone house, complete with our own kitchen and bath. Some of the furniture seemed like from another century, which gave the house a special atmosphere (we liked it!). Part of the estate is a little museum, which the owners have filled with objects, photographs and furniture from the farms past. We were very warmly welcomed and shown around by the elegant old lady who grew up there (but now lives in the "city"). She really seemed to enjoy showing us all the things from her own past, and telling little stories about them - which we only half understood, because she only spoke Portuguese and French, and we spoke neither well enough to have a very deep conversation. Still, communication is always possible if you try! Definitely recommended, but make sure you have a plan for how to get around the island! Walking is not really an option, unless you want to spend most of your time doing it.

Pour le petite gite la cuisine est petit et mal conçu et sans eau chaude pour laver la vaisselle. L'accueil est par contre très chaleureux.

Casa Rosario Coelho - Porto Santo

Lovely house and garden, in a quiet corner of a quiet island. We hired a car, so were at the big beach within 10 minutes, but the sea is only a 15 minute walk along the road from the house, and the Porto dos Fradres restaurant is excellent.
